Guided tour of the Amiternum Archaeological Park and the catacombs of the Church of San Michele Arcangelo
Since April, in celebration of the 2025 Jubilee, the National Museum of Abruzzo in L’Aquila has launched an annual program of thematic guided tours. This will allow visitors to discover a different itinerary each month, inspired by the major themes of the Sacred, and to learn about the Museum’s archaeological and historical-artistic heritage.
On September 5th at 9:00 a.m., a thematic guided tour dedicated to the Territory of the Martyr San Vittorino will take place in the Amiternum Archaeological Park Theater.
In the year dedicated to the Jubilee of Hope, MuNDA is offering a guided tour in September organized in collaboration with the Archeoclub d’Italia association, L’Aquila branch, the Alta Valle dell’Aterno subsection of the CAI in L’Aquila, and the Parish of San Michele Arcangelo in San Vittorino.
The tour begins at the Amiternum Theater, which began construction east of the ancient Via Caecilia between 50 and 25 BC and remained in operation until the mid-4th century AD. It continues, for a short stretch of about 30 minutes along the Cammino dei Monti e dei Santi (Way of the Mountains and Saints), to the early Christian catacombs located in the basement of the church of San Michele Arcangelo di San Vittorino, whose martyrdom dates back to the 3rd or early 4th century, when the last persecutions of Christians occurred.

The guided tours listed in the Jubilee 2025 catalog, Jubilee 2025 “The Sacred Itineraries in MuNDA”, are led by Museum staff and last one hour. Reservations are required from Tuesday to Friday.
