On August 30, 2025, Mayor Luigi Servi of the Municipality of Fano Adriano (TE) awarded honorary citizenship to Dr. Federica Zalabra, Director of the National Museum of Abruzzo in L’Aquila.
An art historian with a degree and doctorate from Sapienza University and a specialization from the University of Florence, she has served the Ministry of Culture since 2010 as an official of the Superintendency of Umbria and as collections manager and registrar of the National Gallery of Umbria. At the Central Institute for Restoration, she taught art history and directed numerous restorations, and at the General Directorate of Museums, she coordinated and curated exhibitions in Italy and abroad. From 2021 to 2024, she served as Regional Director of the Abruzzo Museums and interim Regional Secretary for Abruzzo, and since 2024, she has served as Director of the National Museum of Abruzzo.
The award, approved by the City Council, recognizes her constant and tireless commitment to disseminating and promoting the cultural heritage of Italy and Abruzzo, conducted with passion and scientific rigor.
The director of MuNDA, deeply attached to the community and the Fano region, as well as to strong family ties, has for several years served as a member of the Honorary Committee of the Giuseppe Zilli Journalism Award and as a member of the jury of the Guido Montauti Award, highly prestigious events held each summer in Fano Adriano.
Her words reveal her pride in receiving this recognition: “I am very grateful for this recognition, which fills me with joy and strengthens my roots. My thoughts go to my parents, who would have been proud to see me “officially” a citizen of Fano Adriano; I have always been a daughter of this place.”
