Description

This scale model of the Castle of L’Aquila was created by Giovanni Carafa, Duke of Noja, for Charles of Bourbon. It was part of the royal collection alongside models of the most significant fortresses of the Kingdom of Naples. Its value lies in the documentation it offers of the castle’s condition between the Bourbon siege of 1734 and its later conversion into a military barracks after the unification of Italy. Beneath the model, a drawer-like compartment contains a pen-drawn plan of the building’s undercrofts.
