A sculptural work of great elegance and composure, it clearly reflects the classicist vocabulary derived from Raphael, though interpreted in a more simplified and extended manner. The sculpture is attributed to the painter-sculptor from Castel del Monte (L’Aquila), Troiano De Giptis, thanks to stylistic features and the presence on the reverse of two “TR” monograms, interpreted as “Troianus”. The Child, originally resting on the mother’s lap, is now lost.
