Description

At the centre of the fresco, which follows the design of the tabernacle — a tradition that was very widespread in Abruzzo — a tradition that was very widespread in Abruzzo, stands the figure of Saint Eusanio, holding his own entrails in his right hand, symbolising the torments he endured. On either side four scenes from the life and miracles performed by the saint are depicted, accompanied by inscriptions that, according to a manuscript by Angelo Leosini cited in the 1934 Inventory of Art Objects in the Province of Aquila, are described as “legends in the ancient Aquilan language.”
