Description

Once attributed to the Abruzzese artist Nicola da Guardiagrele, the Annunciation originally adorned a private garden in Tocco da Casauria (Pescara). Likely intended to decorate a doorway – evident from its unfinished back –, the group passed into the hands of two Roman antiquarians in 1904. In 1907, it was acquired by the Italian State for the Museo Nazionale del Bargello in Florence, thus preventing its transfer to the United States.
