As part of the Ministry of Culture’s Promotion Plan, the National Museum of Abruzzo will also be open to the public in the evening on December 30th from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm, offering the opportunity to take a fascinating journey through Renaissance and Baroque music. This concert, presented by the Alfredo Casella Conservatory of Music in L’Aquila, features a consort of recorders and violas da gamba, with soprano Claudia di Carlo and harpsichordist Jolanda Masciovecchio.
The programme bears witness to the lively musical practice of the time, offering a rich mosaic of instrumental works by D. Ortiz, J.B. de Boismortier, G. Mainerio, together with collections of Renaissance dances and Baroque vocal arias on Christmas themes by F. Cavalli, F. Soto de Langa, C. Monteverdi and G. Kapsberger.
The ensembles include Professors Maria De Martini (recorder) and Giovanna Barbati (viola da gamba), both Conservatory faculty members affiliated with the Department of Early Music, a center of excellence for the study, research, and dissemination of Renaissance and Baroque repertoire. Thanks to a teaching approach that combines philological rigor, historically informed performance practice, and interpretive vitality, the Department offers students a comprehensive and stimulating education.
The Department’s diverse instrumental and vocal expertise—in addition to the aforementioned professors, it includes Sonia Tedla, Renaissance and Baroque singing; Marco Pesci, lute; and Andrea Coen, harpsichord—enables intensive group work, fostering the emergence of early music consorts and ensembles that are the focus of numerous concert programs promoted by the Department.
The hour-long concert will be held on December 30th at MuNDA’s charming historic venue, the Castello, in the heart of L’Aquila’s historic center. This will allow the audience to enjoy a musical experience in a setting of great artistic and cultural value, complemented by a visit to the exhibition on the Museum’s first floor.
