Description

The Madonna is depicted seated on a low, backless throne, with the Christ Child lying across her knees. Cloaked in a long mantle, she supports her Son with her right hand while holding a closed book on her left knee with the left one. Originally placed on the façade of Santa Maria di Collemaggio alongside a statue of Saint Peter Celestine, the sculpture was transferred from the Museo Civico of L’Aquila to the Museo Nazionale d’Abruzzo in 1951.
