Description

Partially destroyed by a fire, the altarpiece depicts the Madonna Enthroned with a backrest decorated with roundels. Of the Christ Child, originally seated on the Virgin’s lap, only a fragment of the right foot remains. The artwork is notable for the delicate modelling of the Virgin’s face, achieved through subtle lighting that reflects the painter’s engagement with the light techniques exemplified by Piero della Francesca.
