Description

The two screens come from a building dating back to the Lombard period (6th–8th century), which underwent several transformations over the centuries. Unearthed during the church’s restoration in 1968, the screens are a rare and nearly intact example of early medieval liturgical furnishings preserved in the region. Adorned with interlaced ribbon motifs, they were originally fixed permanently to the masonry, and for this reason they were only decorated on the side facing outward.
