Design and invention in L’Aquila in the seventeenth century
Index

The educational project “Building Community with Art”

The exhibition “Giulio Cesare and Francesco Bedeschini. Drawing and Invention in L’Aquila in the Seventeenth Century,” held in L’Aquila at the National Museum of Abruzzo, is accompanied by an educational project curated by the University of L’Aquila, entitled “Building Community with Art.” The project is supervised by Professor Alessandro Vaccarelli, Chair of the Education and Social Work Department and Associate Professor of General and Social Pedagogy, and coordinated by Professor Luca Pezzuto, Associate Professor of Museology and Art Criticism and Restoration.

The educational project aims to convey the exhibition’s contents to children in local primary schools, in order to foster skills related to a sense of belonging and active citizenship.

To this end, several initiatives have been implemented to engage and share the cultural experience:

  • Training sessions for teachers

Teachers from local schools who have already received a project abstract and anyone interested in leading classes on a visit to the exhibition will be able to participate in training sessions. The young students involved will receive a book specially created for the project, which will be used in three ways: at school and with their families to prepare for the museum visit, during the exhibition, and at the end of the experience.

  • Publication of the book “Discovering Julius Caesar and Francesco Bedeschini – Two Artists in L’Aquila in the Seventeenth Century”

The book, written by Antonella Muzi with illustrations by Nicolò Golia, guides children through the study of Julius Caesar and Francesco Bedeschini using stories, images, activities, and food for thought. The scientific nature of the historical and artistic content is shared through engaging strategies, using vocabulary suitable for young children: puzzles, drawing cards, treasure hunts, observation guides, and suggested itineraries to explore with families. Finally, the book presents itself as an initial tool for approaching the museum, understood as an institution that preserves and enhances cultural heritage but also as a place in which to enjoy educational and creative experiences.
