Madonna and Child Enthroned

The composition presents a frontal, hieratic depiction marked by majestic rigidity. The Madonna’s visage exhibits a characteristic elongation, a formal motif introduced to Abruzzo from neighboring Umbria and subsequently emblematic of the regional school. Her veil cascades over the shoulders, partially revealing gilded
hair arranged beneath. The garment’s neckline is notably broad. The Christ Child, clad in a tunic that leaves his sandal-clad feet visible, holds a small orb in his left hand; the right hand, now lost, originally performed a gesture of benediction. The sculpture is hollowed on the reverse.
