Ex Mattatoio
Index

Description

The archaeological section of the ancient period consists of finds from Amiternum, Aveia and Peltuinum, important Italic and Roman centers in the L’Aquila basin, including the Amiternino Calendar and limestone reliefs depicting a Combattimento di gladiatori and a Cerimonia funebre , and a limestone cinerary urn lid with a coiled serpent, all dating between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD. The display cases display armaments, jewelry, household furnishings and everyday objects from the rich necropolises of Fossa and Bazzano, dating between the 9th century BC and the 1st century AD. In June 2025, on the occasion of the European Archaeological Days, an interesting and original exhibition was presented, made possible thanks to the recent allocation of archaeological finds from the deposits of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Chieti and Pescara. The exhibition featured five faces from the city of Amiternum, part of marble and limestone sculptures.
