As part of the collateral activities for the exhibition “Giulio Cesare and Francesco Bedeschini. Drawing and Invention in L’Aquila in the Seventeenth Century,” a public conference entitled “The Restoration of Paintings at the National Museum of Abruzzo on the Occasion of the Exhibition “Giulio Cesare and Francesco Bedeschini. Drawing and Invention in L’Aquila in the Seventeenth Century” will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. in the Carispaq Foundation Auditorium. Speakers will include Federica Zalabra, Deputy Director of the National Museum of Abruzzo, and Federica Marini Recchia, restorer.

This inaugurates a series of free conferences dedicated to exploring the themes of the exhibition “Giulio Cesare and Francesco Bedeschini.” Drawing and Invention in L’Aquila in the Seventeenth Century, curated by Michele Maccherini, Luca Pezzuto, Simonetta Prosperi Valenti, and Federica Zalabra, will culminate on February 28 and 29, 2024, with an international conference, “Drawing and Invention in Central-Southern Italy (16th-18th Centuries),” which will take place both in the “Alessandro Clementi” Aula Magna of the University of L’Aquila and in the Carispaq Foundation Auditorium.

In a conference on January 11, art historian Federica Zalabra and restorer Federica Marini Recchia will illustrate the historical and artistic aspects, the problems caused by previous maintenance and restoration interventions, the critical choices of materials and methodologies carried out on some oil paintings on canvas from the National Museum of Abruzzo prior to their installation in the exhibition: Madonna del Rosario and San Giacomo Maggiore by Giulio Cesare Bedeschini, the Portrait of Agathon I by Cesare Fantetti, and Saint Trophimus of Arles by Francesco Bedeschini.
