On Saturday, November 30th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, an evening of poetry, music, and solidarity called “Ukraine and the Song of the Soul” will take place in the Franciscan Hall of the Borgo Rivera museum. The event celebrates Ukrainian culture, one thousand days after the Russian invasion of the country.
The event, organized in collaboration between the Association of Ukraine 24 February and the Ukraine CreAttiva APS, with the patronage of the Municipality of L’Aquila, the Regional Council of Abruzzo, and the Academy of Fine Arts of L’Aquila, is dedicated to Victoria Amelina, a prominent Ukrainian writer who died at the age of just thirty-eight from injuries sustained in a Russian missile explosion in Kramatorsk.
The evening will be hosted by Eleonora Falci, editor-in-chief of “Il Capoluogo,” and will consist, after institutional greetings from Director Federica Zalabra and President of the Academy of Fine Arts of L’Aquila Rinaldo Tordera, of a first reading of works by leading contemporary Ukrainian poets such as Iryna Shuvalova, Oksana Stomina, and Victoria Amelina. A second performance of sacred and folk music performed for violin, bandura, and voice will be conducted by Marianna Volkova (bandura and voice) and Oksana Tiutiunyk (violin).
The poems are taken from the book “Discovering Ukraine: A Journey Through the Centuries” by the Associazione Ucraina 24 Febbraio. The volume can be purchased on the association’s website or in local bookstores; for each copy sold, €6 will be donated to three solidarity projects dedicated to Ukrainian children.
The initiative will continue at 7:30 PM in the Basilica of San Bernardino with a concert of traditional Ukrainian music.
Admission to the initiative is free.
