The fresco was detached at the end of the 19th century following the destruction of the Church of San Francesco, whose construction dates back to the founding of the city. However, the various earthquakes over the centuries altered its original structure, leading to almost complete destruction. The composition’s layout is still from the 15th century, with the cross in the foreground and the painted surface sharply divided between the upper part, occupied by crosses, and the lower part, crowded with figures.
