Description

Painted over a design already created by Giovanni Antonio di Percossa, who died before completing the panel, the artwork underwent a restoration process (2023) preceded by diagnostic investigations that revealed the use of precious lapis lazuli and gold leaf. The Virgin, with the child in her arms, rests on a crescent moon, an apocalyptic symbol. Surrounding her, angels carry the symbols of the Passion and images of the mysteries of the Rosary. In the foreground, a sovereign and a pope kneel, with their crowns placed on the ground.
