Description

This splendid polyptych, once attributed to the Venetian painter Jacobello del Fiore, is a significant testament to the artistic vitality
of the Abruzzo region in the 15th century, a period marked by exchanges and the movement of artworks and artists, particularly along the Adriatic route. The painting stands as an authoritative example of a late Gothic altar decoration, enclosed within a complex gilded wooden framework – a true masterpiece of woodcarving – which has undergone some restoration and integration over time.
At the center sits the Madonna enthroned with her Child, flanked by Saints Bartholomew, Michael the Archangel, Pope Silvester and Nicholas of Bari. In the upper register, Christ Blessing occupies the central position, while at the sides appear Saints Blaise, Catherine of Alexandria, Margaret of Antioch and Anthony the Abbot.
