Description

The commission came to Saturnino in the final stage of his brilliant career, with the specific request to adhere to the model of Saint Sebastian by Silvestro dell’Aquila for the Church of Santa Maria del Soccorso. Saturnino must have trained as a sculptor and painter in Silvestro’s workshop, becoming acquainted with the art of the Tuscan Renaissance while still very young. A restoration carried out in 1967 revealed, beneath 18th-century stucco, the original wooden modeling and the original polychromy.
